In 2024 – 2025, ETZ Global partnered with WEG to design and implement a robust, compliant SAP footprint for their operations in South Africa, Zambia, and Ghana. The focus was on a best-practice SAP FICO (with strong localization and tax compliance) and SD landscape that could scale with WEG’s growth across Africa.
The Challenge
WEG needed a harmonized, compliant SAP template that could:
- Support country-specific tax, legal, and financial reporting requirements in South Africa, Zambia, and Ghana
- Standardize Financial Accounting (FICO) and Sales & Distribution (SD) processes across all three countries
- Align with global templates and governance from WEG Brazil, while accommodating local operational realities in Africa
- Deliver clear, reusable configuration and functional documentation to support future roll outs and audits
This required deep SAP FI localization expertise, strong coordination between continents, and meticulous planning.
ETZ’s Role
ETZ Global was engaged as a strategic SAP partner to lead and support:
1. Planning, Research & Blueprint
- Conducted detailed fact-finding workshops with key stakeholders in South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, and Brazil.
- Performed fit-gap analyses against WEG’s global SAP template, with a focus on FICO and SD.
- Designed a multi-country blueprint covering processes, controls, and integration points across Finance, Sales, and Materials Management.
2. SAP FI/CO Localization & Compliance (Core Focus)
An ETZ Global functional consultant led the localization workstream for SAP FI, with a particular focus on:
- General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Tax, and Asset Accounting
- Country-specific tax procedures, reporting, and compliance requirements for:
- South Africa
- Zambia
- Ghana
Key activities included:
- Fit-gap analysis and functional specifications for SAP Localization (Tax & Legal Reporting) in all three countries.
- Localization requirements assessment and documentation for statutory tax compliance in SAP FI, SD and MM.
- Functional design documentation for country-specific tax procedures, reporting, and compliance for WEG’s African operations.
- Direct engagement with tax authorities in Ghana and Zambia to validate statutory requirements and ensure alignment with SAP FI Localization configuration.
3. Detailed Configuration Guides
ETZ researched, designed, and delivered detailed SAP configuration guides throughout 2024 and 2025, including:
- Country-specific FI/CO and tax configuration
- SD integration with FI (pricing, billing, tax determination, account determination)
- Clear documentation to support WEG’s internal IT and Finance teams for ongoing support, audits, and future rollouts
These guides now serve as reference assets within WEG for both operations and future projects.
Implementation & Rollout
Working closely with WEG’s SAP peers from head office in Brazil, ETZ supported the full lifecycle:
- Blueprint & design
- Configuration & documentation
- Testing, validation, and localization sign-off
- Go-live and hyper-care support
All three countries, South Africa, Zambia, and Ghana, were successfully rolled out on SAP FICO and SD, with localization fully aligned to statutory requirements.
Collaboration & Key Stakeholders
The success of this program was a true joint effort between WEG Brazil, WEG Africa, and ETZ Global.
What the Client Said
A highlight of the project was the feedback on ETZ’s FI/CO and localization documentation.
As Fabiano Boscaini de Freitas, Project Manager at WEG Brazil, commented:
“We received all documents from ETZ Gobal and I have to say that I don´t remember to had received a so complete document before. We are very happy.”
The Outcome
• Three countries live on a harmonized, compliant SAP FI/CO and SD template
• Full statutory tax compliance for Ghana, Zambia, and South Africa within SAP
• High-quality, reusable configuration and functional design documentation
• Strong alignment between WEG Brazil and WEG Africa with ETZ as the integration partner
• A scalable foundation for future SAP enhancements and regional expansion in Africa
The implementation was a clear success, and ETZ Global is proud to have been instrumental in the planning, research, blueprint, and execution that made it possible.
